2012

2012, the big year, when all of us sophomores will be graduating in June. But our fun may be ruined by the Mayan calender date of December 21, 2012 at 11:11 am. Most of us know from the media coverage and the Hollywood blockbuster film of this date, but many are uninformed of the specific details of this date. Have you heard of planet X? Or Polar shift? There are many other theories and evidence that supposedly points the the reality of 2012, but I do not have the time to research each one tonight.

Planet X, the X is for the number 10, as in the tenth planet in the solar system. It was discovered in 1982 and is five times larger than Earth, and has 100x more mass. The biggest concern about planet X though is its magnetic feild. The magnetic feild of the planet is so large that it is capable of tampering with other planets magnetic feilds around it.

Scientitsts have found that its orbit is very similar to a comet, it is shaped like an oval, coming very close to the sun and the planets, then reaching far out past the outer planets. Scientists fear that as planet X returns closer to Earth in 2012 that its massive size and magnetic feild will bring a plethora of natural disasters plaguing the Earth. These include climate tempature fluxuations, earthquakes, hurricanes, volcanic eruptions, tsunamis, melting ice caps, and "probobly a shift in the polar axis of Earth." This polar axis shift is when the north pole and the south pole switch positions and the north pole becomes the south and the south the north, possibly causing failures in electronic devices. Leading astronomers and political leaders have been keeping this quiet to prevent fearful citizens who may feel they should rebel and revolt before this thing comes.

I had searched 'planet X' up on google and was unable to find any credible sources of its existence. The only things that showed up were conspiracy web sites while I looked for a government or NASA article on it. Personally I don't see any planet X exisiting. And even if it did the chances of Earth's and it's orbits coming together are very slim. But lets say they did, how could planet X cause hurricanes, and volcanic eruptions? Or global tempature changes? The giant magnetic feild makes it seem the switching of the polar axis sound plausible, but that doesn't make sense. I am not an astronomer but if two magnetic feilds collide its really just two giant magnets coming close to each other. I have never seen a magnet switch its positive and negative sides in the prescence of another magnet, so why would two really big ones switch? Im not one to say but that is the way I see it.

I hope you enjoyed this blog, have a great day.

  1. Wow... That's all I have to say about that blog, but I need to say more. That was very interesting and I never knew there was a planet called the "planet X". Also I hope this isn't true because that date that you told me is near my birthday! Also I will be in college already so I want to live my life until O past away of old age. This was a interesting blog and very exciting.

  2. I've heard a certain theory on that the 2012 global aligning. That all the planets will line up and create a gravitational pull on the sun and bring it closer to the earth. I'm not sure what to believe, but it is a valuable theory. I mean if it happens, it happens we can't do anything about it. By the way we will graduate before this happens..

  3. Your blogs have been interesting all semester - it was always one of my favorites to read. I love how you explained the theory and then shared information about your search for plausible evidence.

  4. This is a fantastic blog. I recently watched the movie "2012". Your blog has helped me go more in depth with the topic of the world "ending" on December 21, 2012. I don't think that astronomers and political leaders should keep so quiet about this topic because as citizens we should be aware of what is being discovered and thought in the scientific world.

  5. I have read a lot on the 2012 theory but I'm not sure whether to believe it or not. Personally, I am a follower of Mr. Nostradamus. He, along with a few other people in history have predicted a great event to come in 2012 and they're credible sources because a lot of what's been predicted related to recent years has come to pass and actually follow through with the prophecy's. Can't argue that logic, I say. Science makes a lot of mistakes, this guy usually knows what he's talking about. [;
    Just thought I'd share since it was related.

  6. Ah, but that is the beauty in Nostradamus, in his vagueness lies hope.

  7. I really do not believe the whole 2012 the world is going to end stuff. It really bothers me how people could think that the world could end so abruptly. Science has PREDICTIONS, not DEFINITES. So we should not base our future on what MAY happen. I am the kind of person who lives with the idea that today is what we should look forward to. A catastrophic event should not be enought to frighten people if it is only a hypothesis. So everyone should stop the worry and relax.
